It has been a while
since parents have started skipping the usual drawing and painting classes and
instead have started sending their kids for robotics and computer programming for kids. The more
conservative parents still think if it is a good idea to steal their kids’
playground time and instead force them to sit in a room with a bunch of other
kids, trying to do something they will obviously take a long time to get the
hang of.
Hence, it is quite
natural for parents to hesitate a little bit. But here’s the thing - learning robotics for kids doesn’t mean they will only
spend all their time in front of screens and that it will restrict their
chances of making it in other fields of work. Rather, we are now looking at
using the basics of programming in all aspects of work, across industries, to
make people’s lives easier.
Coming to the
question at hand - how early is early when it comes to learning programming or
robotics. The answer is, well, maybe 3 years old is a bit early. There are 5
year old kids who start learning how to code. By the time they are 10, they
have developed a few apps or designed a software or two. This doesn’t mean that
all the kids who learn programming will go on to become billionaires, it simply
means that all of them will manage to have a deeper understanding of how the
world of technology functions and how to use it in the best possible manner to
their advantage.
Consider something
as simple as knowing how to type - there was a time when people used to think
that only a few people in the society need to know how it works. Not the
others. However, today, every single person in the world types. What does this
mean for kids trying to learn coding for children?
That it’s not too early. It never is!
