Education in the country has changed drastically in the last few
decades. Thanks to the recent boom in multinational tech giants proliferating
across the country, it is no longer possible for parents to ignore the role of
a more focused education system. Even as early as an early learning centre, it is
important for children to pick up on key vocational skills which will help them
later on in life. Let's take a look at how things have changed in the recent
past.
The introduction of STEM education is the strongest indication that a
simple education is long enough. STEM essentially places a greater emphasis on
learning the principles of science, technology, engineering and mathematics
from an early age. This is not only reflected in the curriculum that children
are taught but also in the way in which they are taught things from an early
age. Classrooms too have evolved and with the help of technology, educators can
now bring to life theoretical concepts and empower children to learn through
interactive mediums. Another result of this movement was the introduction of
courses like student
entrepreneurs programme and computer courses for kids. These courses place
a greater emphasis on practical application of concepts as opposed to basic,
theoretical learning. Additionally, they aim at inculcating vocational skills
in children from a very early age. Skeptics believe that young kids are
incapable of truly understanding concepts like entrepreneurship and coding but
results prove otherwise.
Many STEM enabled schools offer computer courses for
kids and many of them are based on coding and programming. But don't lose
heart if your child doesn't study in a STEM enabled school. Big cities like
Mumbai have a number of independent institutions that offer these sort of courses
for your children. They are structured in a way to ensure that these courses
don't come in the way of your child's regular school education.
