How To Introduce Your Child To Coding?

So your child comes homes and tells you that there is something more important and interesting beyond the computer courses for kids that you have picked out for them - and tells you that they need to, they want to learn how to code. How do you get started?

This article will help you understand how you, as a parent, can help your child explore the fascinating world of computer programming and use it in order to build an enviable career path in the future.

Before you begin, it is important to be aware that every child, and every individual for that matter, has a knack for different things. So one person might readily take to a given skill or hobby, while others may find it boring and impossible to do even after a million attempts. This guide is a resource that will help you figure out how to try something new for your child and see if it clicks with them. So here goes.

Start With The Basics
Have your kids read a book which covers the very basics, or a short video on YouTube that explains the basics. Have them understand the meaning of coding, and what it involves. Don’t worry about the surge of questions that they will come up with - it is a good sign. More questions means that they are actually thinking about the video they watched or the book they leafed through, and that it has grabbed their interest.

Talk To People
Know a programmer who lives in your building? Or perhaps a family friend? Have your child sit down with them and ask questions. You can also look up someone who teaches robotics and have your child converse with them about coding and programming. Getting some of their questions answered would add fuel to the fire within them willing to learn more and more about this topic.

Task time!
As a famous person once said, you can learn best by actually doing something. So have your child do a small task, no matter how small it is. Check if they have any ideas of their own, otherwise brainstorm with them to come up with some ideas. It can be something as simple as finding an app that will teach them how to code. By making them take action and actually do something for their newfound hobby, you will get the wheels churning and see a lot of action come forth from them.

Learn Kids’ Programming Language
It’s now time to let your child dive into the deep waters. If they have shown interest in coding so far, then it is a good idea to have them join a course which teaches a basic, simple to understand coding language. There are a lot of online and offline resources out there which teach coding languages to kids, and your child will benefit from learning any of them.

So go ahead and allow your child to enter the fascinating world of technology. In our times, they are certain to benefit from being tech savvy.

A Unique Opportunity For Kids

Coding, for children, is a unique opportunity to take an early step into building a powerful, influential career in the future. There are many reasons why learning programming might open up a lot of doors for your child and make them stand out from their peers.

First of all, let's get the basics clear. We are not asking them to make their own app which go public on the Apple Store and Google Play. We are giving them a chance to build understanding in their core subjects, thereby letting them visualise abstract concepts more concretely and understand technology in a way that will truly help them succeed in life.

Even if they do not become accomplished coders who earn 7 figure salaries, at the very least, they will learn how technology works and save themselves against people who might try to cheat them by hoaxing them.

Kids programming languages are specially designed in a way that improves their cognitive abilities and makes them smarter, more imaginative, on the whole. This is a unique opportunity for them to develop a skill that will go on to open a lot of doors for them. Think of the world of technology as a country and a programming language as a regular linguistic language - translation is arduous and unreliable. But learning the language in their childhood helps them gain an upper hand over everyone else. Combined with other marketable skills, it almost makes them a great match for a lot of options in the future, both lucrative and satisfying.

Aim to provide a unique education to your kids that will always leave mark on their lives, and help them no matter what field they enter. A little bit of involvement and expense right now can help you equip your child with what will probably become the most important skill in their life, and an indispensable one.

Prepare Your Kids For The Post-Digital Age

It’s only recently that the concept of ‘kidpreneurs has picked up. What’s that, you ask? It’s quite self-explanatory. It’s all about kids with big, innovative, and creative ideas who have the potential to start a business from the ground up.

It’s no news that a kid’s mind is a space of wonder. Kids of all ages have the ability to use the power of their mind which helps express themselves artistically, create new inventions, and launch businesses like never before. That’s how the concept of kidpreneurs kick-started.

While some may think that young entrepreneurship only focuses on programming for kids. That’s not really the case. It goes way beyond that. Inculcating entrepreneurial skills is beneficial in several ways. However, it’s not easy to do so.

Here are a few tips on how to make your kids the ultimate kidpreneurs.
-       Let kids brainstorm and dream big: They might have a tiny brain, but they are full of big ideas.

-       Coach them to set goals: Kids with big ideas and thought starters need to put pen to paper. That will make a world of difference and give a clear-headed direction.

-     Redirect their failures: In the big business world you’re bound to have sudden ups and downs. So while you support your kid’s successes, make sure you show them endless opportunities when they fail.

-       Teach them how a business plan works: A simple outline will help your kids structure their ideas and thoughts better. Think of it as a mind-map.

-       Invest, invest, invest: If you’re going to support your kid in the business, you need to invest in them as well. However, don’t just handout money to them randomly. Make sure it comes from a place of hard work. For instance, it can be their reward for helping around the house.

Now if we’re talking about programming for kids, then you should know that it does wonders. For instance:
-       Helps in problem solving: Simply understanding how games or computers work helps kids appreciate how things function. They understand the basics of solving a problem, logically and creatively. Something that is often missing in school curriculum's.

-       Helps develop resilience: Kids usually set back after failures. However, that’s not the case if kids learn to code. When they learn to code, they develop the ability to bounce back. They understand that failing isn’t all that bad. Instead, it gives them an opportunity to learn and discover a new way of achieving something.

-       Helps them think: Computer programming is not all about teaching how to type lines of code. It’s much more than it. It’s about teaching kids how to think uniquely. It involves both logical and creative thinking. Kidpreneurs need to identify the larger problem and break it down into smaller pieces. Only then will they be able to solve it effectively.

-       Helps them prepare for the future: Let’s face it, computer programming is the future. If kids possess this skill from an early age, it will help them in the future.

So, all in all, watch your kidpreneurs take the world by storm, creatively and passionately.
